Movie #94
4 Stars
Synopsis: This hard-hitting drama follows three young women struggling with the challenges of inner-city life. Pregnant teen Suzette (Anny Mariano), single mother and crack addict Marisol (Paola Mendoza) and tough drug dealer Oz (Judy Marte) meet in a juvenile detention center, where each girl is forced to take a long, hard look at her life and the choices she's made. This film's script was based on real stories from troubled teens in a detention center.
Cast: Anny Mariano, Judy Marte, Paola Mendoza, Dominic Colon, Flaco Navaja, Danny Rivera, Don Parma, Earl Thomason, Rokafella
Director: Lori Silverbush, Michael Skolnik
Thoughts: I didn't really like the music. In a way it was a cop out. Instead of hearing the diagetic sounds from the city you hear really loud music. I think this was totally the wrong approach. You want to feel connected to these characters...get a feeling for what their lives are like...and they don't hear really loud music as they are walking down the street. As far as the characters- It took me a while to like Marisol (the crack addict mother) and I don't think I ever liked Suzette (the pregnant one)...but I REALLLLY liked Oz. I don't know what it was...maybe it was the fact that she didn't do drugs and she was just trying to survive.
Overall Recommendation: Check it out!
Suzette, Marisol, and Oz
